イラン・イラク戦争の終わりをうけて、若いイラン人男性たちが、仕事を探す為に来日し始めてから七年が経ちました。
今日までに、イラン人来訪者の数は30万人に達しましたが、私たちは未だにこの「新しく来た隣人」について無知蒙昧です。
今こそ彼らについて知る時だとSPA!は主張します。

しかし、目標の額を貯めるには、何ヶ月も、時には何年もかかります。
日本に滞在している間、イラン人たちは遠慮がちに暮らします。
彼らは、せっせと働いている最中でない時には、自宅で日本のテレビを観るか、イラン人の友人たちを訪ねる傾向にあります。
彼らが閉鎖されたコミュニティで暮らすことの理由の1つには、不必要な出費を避けようとする想いがあります。
しかし彼らの多くは、日本人と日本の習慣が奇妙すぎると気付いたから、閉じこもった世界で暮らしているのです。
>"When I first came here,I thought all Japanese women were prostitutes,"Mr.M.,a four-year resident,remembers.
>"In Iran,only prostitutes leave their skin exposed like Japanese women do."
「私が最初に来日した時、全ての日本女性は売春婦だと思えました」来日4年目になるM氏は回想します。
「イランでは、売春婦だけが、日本女性のするように肌を露出しっぱなしでいるからです」
>It is rather well known that many Muslim visitors keep away from Japanese food because pork is used in a very subtle fashion.
>But many Iranians do not even accept Japanese clothes.
>Why?
>"Japanese trousers look unhip," notes Mr.M.
>"We like baggy pants with a plenty of room around the thighs and narrow cuffs.
>You can't find them in Japan.
>I ask my mother in Tehran to send me a new pair over whenever I need trousers."
日本食には、とてもかすかな形態で豚肉が紛れ込んでいるために、イスラム教徒が日本食を避けることは、かなりよく知られています。
しかしそれだけではなく、多くのイラン人は日本で販売されている服を受け入れてさえいません。
何故でしょう？
「日本のズボンはダサく見えます」M氏は述べます。
「私たちは、裾と腿に十分な余裕があるバギーパンツが好きです。
日本では見つけることができないでしょう。
私は、ズボンが欲しくなったら、テヘランに居る私の母にお願いして、新しいズボンを送ってもらうんですよ」
>But not all Iranians are stubborn nonconformists.
>Spa! informs its readers that there are also assimilated Iranians who eat pork,drink alcohol,buy women and ignore daily prayers.
しかし、全てのイラン人が頑固に日本の習慣に従わない人達ではないのです。
豚肉を食べ、酒を飲み、女たちを買い、日々の祈りを無視する、日本に同化されたイラン人たちもいるのだと、SPA！は読者に知らせます。
>"Some of us suspended prayers and fasting," observes Mr.H.
"because,our Japanese co-workers and friends get angry if we ask about pork in a meal every time we eat together."
Photojournalist Tsuyoshi Nishiyama estimates the ratio of liberal Iranians in Japan who drink alcohol at about 10 percent.
