以上が検索結果ままである。しかし、これらの数字を直に比較するのは危険である。
もし、毎日新聞社のサイトが他者より100倍大きかったら、ヒット数が100倍になっても良いことになるからだ。
そこで、ニュースとして当たり障りのない用語で検索をかけ、そのサイトの規模を評価した。
サイト規模は検索結果の数字を全部足し、四社の比を取るといういささか乱暴な方法で算出した。
なお、統計学的に効果があるかどうかわからないが、今回は下ネタワードと同じ33個で行った。

次に、数字の直接比較を出来るようにするため、このサイト規模比較の数字でもとの検索結果の数字を全て割ってやる。
これによりサイト規模を考慮した記事量の比較が出来るようになった。

以上の数字が今回の調査の結果であるが、この数字を鵜呑みにし、「下ネタに食いつきが良い」などと論ずるのは大変危険である。実際に検索結果を見てみればわかるが、毎日.jpが他に比べて「下ネタワード」が多いのは、ニュース記事に「下ネタワード」が多く含まれるわけではなく、毎日.jp内のコンテンツ「[[恋愛・結婚>http://mainichi.jp/life/love/index.html]]」に掲載されているコラムにその多くがヒットしているためである（「強姦」が多いのはニュース記事にヒットするためであり、「露出」が多いのはエロい意味で使用されているわけではない普通の記事にヒットするためであろう）。
この調査によって言えることは、毎日新聞社が他社と比べネット関連事業に力を入れていることくらいではないかと思う。
しかし、ネット関連事業に力を入れているはずの企業がなぜ今回のような問題を起こしたのであろうか。インターネットという媒体の与える影響を軽く考えていたのではないか。これだけネット関連事業に力を入れているなら、今回のような問題を起こさないような万全のチェック体制が求められるし、トップページ掲載の「毎日新聞の問題点と、毎日新聞に求めるもの」のような対応があってしかるべきであると思う。
