About this time last year,all the magazines covered the sudden rise in the number of exhibitionist teen-age girls who showed off their bellies.
This summer,most magazines are observing that young women are not so bold,but the observant Weekly Playboy suspects something less conspicuous but even wilder is going on.
According to the magazine's observations,panty lines that used to show under thin summer skirts and pants have disappeared.
Weekly Playboy launches a full investigation in the hope of proving the wild assumption that women are abandoning their underpants!
Starting the four-page article with a survey,Weekly Playboy stops 30 young women on a Tokyo street after confirming that their buttocks show no trace of underwear.
"When I wear thin pants like this," says 19-year-old Nami,"I always put on underpants with laced elastic sections."
"Are you crazy?Nobody walks around without their panties on," offers Mika,a high-school atudent in black shorts.
"We all wear G-strings!"
Contrary to its expectations,Weekly Playboy finds no girls practicing the no-underpants policy.
But a comment by one of the survey respondents,a co-ed named Motoko,encourages the magazine to continue probing.
"I think many girls don't wear panties at home. I don't.
In summer it's too hot to sleep with panties on.
Without them,you can feel more relaxed."
Weekly Playboy interviews more women and finally meets Miki Kawamoto.
The 23-year-old,who works for a video company,reveals to the magazine that she doesn't wear panties.
Instead,she put on a new, combination type pantihose which functions as both panties and pantihose.
"They show no line at all," points out Kawamoto.
"When I put them on under flare pants or a flare mini skirt,I'm sure people who look at my bottom from behind suspect I'm not wearing anything at all underneath."
The magazine obtains further proof at Pearl Pink,a lingerie store in Shinjuku.
The proprietor informs Weekly Playboy that she recommends such products as brown panties and those made in certain designs to customers who visit her store in search of a way to conceal signs of undergarments.
The magazine concludes that those suggestive young women are in fact fully covering their bottoms.
This early conclusion forces the magaznie to fill the rest of the space with a questionable proposal.
It recommends a stimulating date with a woman with no panties on.(TI)
