Making toys out of their patients: Otaku doctors and akkera-kangofu
Spa! 12/4 By Anthony J. Bryant
An otaku is a Japanese cross between a couch potato and an obses-sive nerd.
Akkera-kangofu comes from the word akkerakan, which is used for people who are completely unmoved by criticism.
In the case of nurses it could mean they don't give a damn or couldn't care less about their patients.
Spa! gives examples of different types of health care professionals in big hospitals.
On the doctors' side are obotchama doctors(very spoiled young men from well-heeled families;lots of these out there), the ones who tell the patients to shut up and do as I say, data does(for whom getting the facts down on paper is more important than the patient),etc.
Angels of mercilessness are represented by “till 5” nurses, the ones who would rather be with a favored doctor than tending patients, and so on.
Also appearing:The five rules of patient communication(e.g.,the doctor and nurse aren't almighty, and if you have any complaints about the doctor or nurse, say something).(AJB)
