Rock, Paper, Scissors is commonly used in Japan to make decisions the way a coin determines some matters in the West.
One mother in Osaka Prefecture has given the game a new twist, since she's now in the PAPERS for trying to use SCISSORS on a ... well, at least it rhymes with ROCK and it's often also tossed, according to Shukan Post (2/9).
The 37-year-old mother from the port city of Sakai was arrested in January for assault, after she allegedly tried to use the cutting instrument to hack off the genitals of a 39-year-old man who had paid her runaway 17-year-old daughter for sex in October last year.
"The mother called the man and arranged a meeting with him at a convenience store not far from his home. When he got there, she used a set of 20-centimeter-long scissors to try and cut off his manhood," a police investigation source tells Shukan Post, which notes that the woman had borrowed the scissors used in the alleged attack from employees at the convenience store!
The allegedly attacked man, who like all those who appear in the story was not named by Shukan Post, immediately contacted the police, even through he knew that by doing so he risked being arrested for paying the underage prostitute daughter for sex.
Perhaps most surprised by the incident were the Izumikita cops, who just three weeks earlier had been dealing with the mother in an almost identical incident involving another man, a 45-year-old who had also been partaking of the daughter's pleasures for payment.
"The mother had dragged the other man in to the station, telling us that he'd paid her teenage daughter for sex. When we questioned the man, he told us that the mother had come up to him, flashed the tattoo on her arm at him and demanded that he take responsibility for what he'd done to her daughter. There was a strong suspicion that he had been involved in a violation of the law banning child pornography and child prostitution, so we arrested him and sent the mother home," a police source tells the Weekly.
"In the more recent case involving the scissors, we asked the mother to come in for questioning and one of the officers noticed that she'd been involved in the trouble over teenage prostitution a few weeks before. They questioned her over the earlier incident and found there had been an assault then, too."
The end result was the mother and her daughter were arrested for assaulting the man attacked with scissors, and the man involved in the earlier incident.
The mother, who stands just 155 centimeters tall, is known as a pocket terror who's not afraid to let anybody know how she's feeling.
She frequently flashes her tattoos, which are like favored by Japan's yakuza gangsters.
They're also of the type that generally intimidate ordinary, law-abiding citizens.
While the mother has admitted to assaulting the man, it seems she wasn't doing so to protect her precious daughter.
"When she first went after the men, the woman did not intend to coerce money out of them, but implied things would be easier for them if they decided to repent through cash. At first she did say she was going after them for what they'd done to her daughter, but later told us that she realized she'd been given a golden opportunity to put the squeeze on these men, too," the police source tells Shukan Post.
"She said she received about 250,000 yen a month through welfare, but was struggling to make that amount stretch when it had to feed a family of seven." (By Ryann Connell)
